You can participate in the virtual altar project regardless of geographic location.
Send in photos and videos of your altar, or up to one minute long videos in honor of a loved one.
The Virtual Altar project is designed to help us build bridges between the individual and the community, life, death, sorrow, and celebration. This participatory draws on the thoughtful process of creating a public altar of remembrance of people who have passed. The project is inspired by the altar-making traditions in Mexico for Day of the Dead. Still, the community and personal altars of remembrance are in many traditions all over the world. All are welcome.
Images and videos of the Virtual Altar Project will be shared two ways:
- on-line exhibition on this website.
- As large scale outdoor video projection at:
- Garver Feed Mill
- Madison WI
- November 12, 5 to 9pm.
Please send your files by Oct. 28th but we will accept late entries until Nov. 1 for those that celebrate at home on Nov. 1.
