DAY OF THE DEAD

COMMUNITY ALTAR

EXHIBITION: THU, OCT 28 – MON, NOV 15

ROTUNDA GALLERY

The Day of the Dead Community Altar honors our ancestors and all those who have passed, especially in this  year when so many have been lost to the pandemic.  This participatory project draws on the Day of the Dead altar-making traditions of Mexico and remembrance traditions worldwide. The community altar and celebration bring our diverse community together-to honor our ancestors and keep their memories alive. All are welcome to participate by creating and contributing a shadow box altar to honor someone who has passed.

You can make an altar in whatever way feels most meaningful to you. It can be done as an individual or as a group. You can draw from a specific tradition or create something completely expressive. You can make or arrange objects or pictures, paint, glue, write letters or poems, build, draw, etc. You can work 2 or 3 dimensionally. There is no right or wrong. Do what feels right and creates your own remembrance and celebration of the person, community or event you are honoring.

ROTUNDA GALLERY

No existe algo bien or mal hecho.
